In beeld: bevallen via keizersnede

April is Cesarean Awareness Month. Van die gelegenheid maken we graag gebruik om enkele mooie foto’s te verzamelen die genomen zijn in de operatiekamer… en erna.

We can be literally flayed out on a table with every layer of ourselves exposed …. and the only words we say are “is my baby okay?” Women are Gods. #cesareanawarenessmonth

“From a planned home birth to a c-section. I couldn’t have done it without my incredible midwives! Debs support when we were making those hard decisions and after when I was trying to get my head around how far off plan my birth had went was priceless. Which ever way your baby arrives the magic of that life being born is always there. The care and support of a good midwifery team can make all the difference. Barrett will be 3 next month and I was able to have a successful v-bac with my second.”⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ✨⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #birthpartnership #midwives #midwiferycare #yyc #abmidwives #hospitalbirth #homebirth #vbac #cesareansection #cesareanbirth #cesareanawarenessmonth #ican #birth @tess.nixon

April is Cesarean Awareness month. Both of my deliveries were c-sections. With my first, I labored for 20 hours before each intense contraction put my child’s life at risk. With my second, it was a scheduled c-section due to a prenatal diagnosis. Both times, I was crushed. I felt cheated out of what I thought was a ‘normal’ birth. But what I eventually realized was that how my children came into this world didn’t diminish my birth story, and that it doesn’t define me as a mother – the way I love, care for, and raise them does. I didn’t get the chance to push for my children; instead, I laid in an operating room, had a blade cut through seven layers of my body, and my organs shifted to make room to pull my children out – T W I C E. The pain was excruciating at times and it took months to fully recover both times. But I would do it all again in a heartbeat if I had to. I’m a c-section mama and my scar is a beautiful reminder of where my children came from and the sacrifice I made in the name of love to bring them into this world safely. And if you’re a c-section mama like me, just know that your body didn’t fail you – your body was resilient, powerful, glorious, and stronger than it ever had to be. Your birth story counts, and it’s just as good as anyone else’s. 🤍 Looking back at my second c-section delivery in my stories/highlights.

I didn’t get the birth that I planned for. At all. I didn’t plan on being hooked up to IVs and monitors, and bedridden for days afterwards. I had planned for an unmedicated water birth in a birth center with help from midwives only when I asked for it. Little did I know the journey I’d be going on was quite the opposite. I did have an advantage in knowing that I’d be having a c section, and was able to mentally prepare for it for about 2 weeks. But it was still the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. Being conscious while you’re being cut open and your organs are being moved around and taken out is not something I thought I’d ever experience. I didn’t think I’d have my baby in an OR. I didn’t think I would be nauseous when I held my baby for the first time. It was all so different from what I imagined it would be. But on top of all of that, it was the most magical day of my life. I knew I would meet my baby girl within hours of arriving at the hospital, and that I’d be surrounded by medical professionals. The moment Nora was laid on my chest was different than what I pictured, but it still happened. She came out healthy, and that’s all I could have asked for. I have a scar that will forever remind me of that day, but it will also always remind me of the miracle that came from it. Happy National Cesarean Awreness Month! #cesareanawarenessmonth

“C-section Mama: You are a badass. Your body carried and sustained a human. You might have labored, perhaps for days. You didn’t fail. Even though that’s what the Doctors might label your labor. Your path to motherhood may not have been what you planned. But you are a Mother. I know the decision was hard. It might have been taken out of your hands to decide. But you not only survived, you brought along with you another life. So when you look down at your scar, Remember that your body didn’t fail you. For you felt the flutter (and elbow rolls) of life behind that scar. Let it be a reminder of the sacrificial, never-ending, courageous, unconditional, selfless, lift a car, get cut open, kind of love. That sounds like a mother to me. ” Tag a c-section friend. They might need to hear that they’re a badass today ❤️ . ⠀⠀ 📷: @laurapalaciosphoto @expectful

“Women’s bodies are so amazing and I think sharing the raw aspects of motherhood is so important. Our daughters (and sons) deserve to know about what the human body goes through in order to bring them here. God has given us such a beautiful gift in growing life and giving birth to these sweet babes. #2monthspostpartum #csection” ⁣(via:@happyandgray) ⁣ ⁣#InternationalCesareanAwarenessMonth #Newborn #Birth #Caesarean
